“Charge this to my room number”

Isn’t that what we say
     When we over indulge?

We can’t pay the cheque
So we put it on the card
           And pay later

               – a whole lot more…

If I were in that situation
I’d see the senseless nature of it
          And take a chance at

               Not being popular

     Over
          Indulging beyond my means

This over indulgence

     This
          “Popularity contest”
               Is seen on many levels

Not just food
     And money

     But sex

          And friendships

               And generosity

          Where giving
Is a means to an end

Can’t we accept
Our own finite contributions in the world?

Not everyone has to be the hero

               Most of us are just
                    Ordinary human beings

We don’t all need to be on some
     Grand mission or other

Making a mark in the world

Why not just enjoy your time here
Without putting grand expectations on yourself
          Beyond your means?

     If that were the case
          You could just relax
And be happy being who you are

          A human being
On a quiet journey of your own

No competition

     Just you and your story
          Of giving love
               And letting love in

Breathe into that for a while

     It’s okay to be someone
          With a little story

          Simple
               Is something to celebrate
                    Without a doubt

  1. Thank you and God Bless you for reaching out in a time of question. I know what I want. I understand that it’s not me but the spirit that is In me that has a story to share of my trails my struggles. Finding the time the preparation to set up a quiet place to write, when chaos surrounds me in every area of my life. on my job my marriage my children. I keep praying to God for just a small amount of peace to release me to write my story
