Animal spirits offer exceptional guidance to support and encourage us should we choose to pay attention. Here is an example to emphasize the point, communicated by a young woman in spirit. I think you will agree, there is powerful medicine afoot in this heartwarming story.

~

During a recent Intuitive Reading a sitter reaches out in hopes of a visit by a departed loved one. She wonders who might greet her as she moves to the spirit world (she is currently in hospice) and seeks guidance for her impending passage. When she is given a message from Spirit instead of a visit she is grateful while at the same time feels a little sad. Aching for her, I reach out again to Spirit to forward her prayer for a visitor, asking for ‘right timing’ to prevail.

Over the following couple of months, we chat back and forth. I am grateful for an opportunity to respectfully ask her how her current journey has affected her spiritual mindset, being a psychic herself. She is happy to take time to share how her diagnosis of cancer and time in hospice has radically changed her perspective on life and indeed, strengthened her earth journey. As we chat, a spirit appears.

“I see a spirit here in a white fox costume. Does this have any meaning for you?” I ask.

My new friend says, no. For her, fox represents a ‘trickster’. She wonders if the costume may be symbolic.

I look again at the spirit. She wears the mask pulled down over her face with purpose. I see enough to note a similarity in her appearance to my friend – but a younger version.

“The spirit, who looks like you, seems to love appearing to you as she does in white fox costume, in winter with snow all around. Coupled with an extraordinary white spirit light, this young girl has arrived in brilliant form.”

My friend opens herself for clues, considering again the communication may be something other than a memory of herself (she doesn’t recall ever wearing a fox costume).

Suddenly, a wonderful, yet to her, shocking interaction with her guides comes to mind. They tell her she will be given an option of her ‘role’ when she passes. Her guides explain whatever choice she makes will be permanent, but indeed, the choice is hers to make. There is nothing she hopes for more than to be protector and guardian spirit to her three young daughters after she passes and is comforted to know the spirit realm will support her choice to do so.

Just then the spirit begins to speak.

I am waiting for you on the other side
It could be a while, before you are here.
Till then, I’ll be with you always

We chat a few more minutes. How odd the message passes unmentioned? Perhaps she is searching to try and figure out who the spirit is? A moment or two later she types,

“Wait. I just reread the message you sent. Dan is my brother. His daughter died recently…”

I haven’t mentioned anyone named Dan. I don’t know what she is talking about so I let her words pass without questioning and go on instead to describe the spirit instead.

“Does she have long, dark hair?”

“Yes.”

“Does she have slight features?”

There is a pause, so I continue.

“I can’t really see the spirit well because of the fox mask. It hides her face for the most part. But she laughs when you mention her name, which tells me you’ve nailed it.

“She is pointing at her nose and says,

I have a long nose like fox!

“Does that make sense to you?”

Still no response. I reflect on ‘Dan’ and tell her,

“By the way! I didn’t write, “Tell Dan”. I typed, Till Then.  I’d say she is absolutely playing with us. That is a stretch, even for auto-spell-correct. Wondering what you think?” I pass along again the spirits enjoyment and emphasis of the three ideas of the white fox, white snow and white light.

In time my friend returns with a set of images of her young niece. They lived together when her niece was small. This shared, the young spirit says,

I love you like my mother.
You were always there for me

Determined to lighten the mood, young spirit points again to her face and laughs. It is clear there is some sort of personal joke between them, so I ask,

“Did your niece have a long nose? Bwahaha. She keeps pointing at her nose and shares a feeling of silliness about mentioning this to you!”

“Yes,” said my friend. “She hated her nose. I think it gave her character and she was stunning!”

After many years of working with animal spirits I have come to appreciate their powerful connection to our spirit journey.  My initial understanding came through reflecting on the descriptions in my deck of Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and David Carson. I look up Fox Spirit Medicine and am (not entirely) blown away by what I read. Now I understand how excited this young spirit is to share Fox Medicine with her beloved Auntie.

Amongst the proof this young spirit provides of who she is, I hope you will agree this spirit’s joy-filled reference to Fox is one of a powerful love shared from the Spirit realm to all who wish to breathe these words on my friend’s behalf. Here is Fox Spirit Medicine:

25 Fox – Camouflage

Fox. . .
     Where are you?
          Under the ferns?
               Becoming the forest,
                    So I can learn?

     Are you watching,
          Invisible to me?
               Trying to teach me,
                    To become a tree?

Wiley Fox has many allies in the woodlands, including the foliage, which offers protection and much medicine. Fox is seemingly able to vanish amidst the lush undergrowth of the forest. This flora is Fox’s ally. The ability to meld into one’s surroundings and be unnoticed is a powerful gift when one is observing the activities of others.

Another natural gift of Fox is the ability to adapt to winter by changing color, like the chameleon. Its rich, white, winter coat allows Fox to blend into the snow when the leaves no longer linger. Fox medicine involves adaptability, cunning, observation, integration, and swiftness of thought and action. These traits may also include quick decisiveness, and sure-footedness in the physical world.

Fox’s ability to be unseen allows it to be the protector of the family unit. If danger arises, Fox is Johnny-on-the- spot. Nanih Waiya, Great Spirit in the Choctaw tongue, honors Fox with the duty of keeping the family together and safe. This is accomplished through Fox’s ability to observe undetected, without making others self-conscious. Fox is always concerned with the safety of family members and is an excellent talisman for those traveling far afield.

If Fox has chosen to share its medicine with you, it is a sign that you are to become like the wind, which is unseen yet is able to weave into and through any location or situation. You would be wise to observe the acts of others rather that their words at this time. Use your cunning nature in a positive way; keep silent about who and what and why you are observing. In learning the art of camouflage, you need to test your ability to pull this off.

One test of exercise that may be helpful to you is deciding to be invisible. In doing this exercise, you might try to visualize your body as part of your surroundings, full of the colors of the location you are in. See yourself in your mind’s eye, moving with stealth and grace, unheeded by others. If you do it right, it works! You can leave a party unnoticed or become as unobtrusive as a piece of furniture, watching the developing drama of the subjects you are studying.

While learning from Fox, you might also gain confidence in your ability to know instantly what will happen next. After observing for a while, you will become aware of a certain predictability in given situations and be able to quickly make your move. Fox medicine teaches the art of Oneness through its understanding of camouflage. This applies on all levels, from rocks to God. With Fox medicine, you are being asked to see all types of uses for Oneness.

Much like the clowns at the rodeo, Fox can keep the raging bull from stampeding a friend or family member. Fox can use silly tactics as a brilliant camouflage move. No one could guess the sly power behind such ingenious maneuvers.
